A man has died after being shot byresponding to a noise complaint on Russell Island, east of Brisbane.
Superintendent Andrew Pillotto said police were called to a disturbance at a private residence on Ranora Avenue at about 9am, after receiving phone calls from neighbours of reports of smashing glass.
When police attended they allege they were approached by an armed man.
The man, aged 30, wasat the property, leaving him in a critical condition despite receiving treatment from paramedics.
Belarus police detain hundreds of women at protest
Riot police on Saturday detained hundreds of women, dragging many into vans, as opposition protesters marched through the Belarusian capital Minsk demanding an end to President Alexander Lukashenko's rule. Police blocked the women and began pulling them into police vans as they stood with linked hands, swiftly detaining hundreds, an AFP journalist saw. Police lifted some women off their feet in order to remove them.Around two thousand women took part in the "Sparkly March", wearing shiny accessories and carrying red-and-white flags of the protest movement.
"Two officers turned up here (at the residence) just after 9:15am, when they turned up and got out of their vehicle, they were immediately confronted by a male person armed with an edged weapon," Mr Pillotto said.
"During that confrontation, unfortunately police have discharged their firearm, killing that male person."
Mr Pillotto said nowere used.
How the incident unfolded remains under investigation by the Ethical Standards Command of the Queensland Police and is being overseen by the Australian Crime Corruption Commission (ACCC).
Mr Pillotto expressed his sympathies to the victim's family on behalf of Queensland police and said both officers are currently undergoing counselling.
Police officer shot dead inside custody centre in south London .
A police officer has been shot dead inside a custody centre in south London. The Metropolitan Police say a 23-year-old man was detained at the scene at Croydon custody centre, and was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound.The male officer was shot at 2.15am on Friday by a man who had already been arrested.In a statement, the Met said the officer was treated at the scene and then taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service, but later died.No police firearms were discharged, according to the police.
