Sydney's New Year's Eve fireworks could be VERY different this year
Sydney's New Year's Eve Fireworks could be scrapped in favour of a televised event due to coronavirus restrictions. The spectacle would be celebrated with a historic compilation of the city's fireworks shows from the past 16 years in place of a multi million dollar pyrotechnics show.
"Bridal parties of up to 20 can be on the dancefloor, but it must be the same 20," she said.
"Whilst we're easing this restriction, it is still a high-risk environment and we ask both the patrons and bridal organisers the bridal party is clearly identified and it is not different multiples of 20 but the same 20 on the dancefloor."
Ms Berejiklian also pointed to the relaxation of sporting events, music, assemblies and other activities for schools.
The Premier said the government was working on "some type of fireworks event" for New Year's Eve but reiterated it would be "vastly different from any other New Year's event the state had previously witnessed".
If people are planning ahead already, apart from a ticketed event a venue or restaurant, you'll probably be watching from home.
Ms Berejiklian said some councils had applied to have small COVID-safe events take place in their jurisdictions.
The Premier noted one case of community transmission was recorded after 8pm and would be included in tomorrow's figures.
