Gladys Berejiklian says she "stuffed up" following revelations of a personal relationship with disgraced former MP Daryl Maguire — but she intends to continue in her role as NSW Premier.

In evidence to the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) today, the Premier revealed she was in a relationship with Mr Maguire from 2015 until a few months ago.

Ms Berejiklian said today had been "hands down … one of the most difficult days of my life".

"I'm an extremely private person and without question I stuffed up in my personal life and I accept that," she said in a media conference following her bombshell evidence at ICAC.

She said not even her family had been aware of her relationship with Mr Maguire.

"It's very difficult for someone in my position to have a private and a personal life and I'm very upset with what's transpired."

Premier Gladys Berejiklian has admitted she shared a private relationship with disgraced former colleague Daryl Maguire while he was in office. Secretly recorded phone conversations the pair had have been played at the Independent Commission Against Corruption (pictured).

The ICAC today heard Ms Berejiklian last spoke to Mr Maguire a month ago.

"When I was asked to support this inquiry it became apparent to me that I should have absolutely no contact anymore and I ceased all contact," Ms Berejiklian told the inquiry.

It also heard telephone conversations between Ms Berejiklian and Mr Maguire, including details about Mr Maguire's financial position.

Ms Berejiklian agreed Mr Maguire told her in 2017 that he had about $1.5 million debt but rejected any suggestion she would have benefited from him being in a better financial position.

"I'm an independent woman who is proud of her independence and anybody else's finances would be completely immaterial to me," she told ICAC.

The Premier was also questioned about her knowledge of a deal Mr Maguire was attempting to do in Western Sydney.

In a telephone conversation between the pair in September 2017 Mr Maguire said: "It looks like we finally got the Badgerys Creek stuff done … I'll be glad when that's done 'cause I'll make enough money to pay off my debts, which would be good. Can you believe it, in one sale."

NSW Opposition Leader Jodi McKay said Ms Berejiklian was "an absolute fraud" and that she had "no choice but to resign".

"She cannot possibly stay as the Premier of this state, given the extraordinary evidence that has been given to the Independent Commission Against Corruption today.

In a tweet, Greens Upper House MP David Shoebridge said Ms Berejiklian's position seemed untenable.

"It's hard to see how the Premier Can survive a day in Parliament this week given the bombshells being dropped at ICAC about her relationship with disgraced Liberal MP Daryl Maguire."

Transport Minister Andrew Constance threw his support behind Ms Berejiklian, describing her as the "best Premier".

"The great news for this state is that Glads going nowhere," he said.

"Yes today is a blip, but [the] bottom line is, [she's an] incredible Premier doing incredible things and [she's] going to continue to do so."

Mr Constance said Ms Berejiklian's evidence at ICAC had simply been "about a relationship".

"We've all had relationships where trust has broken down.

"As far as I'm concerned Glad is one of the most honourable, high-integrity political leaders this state's seen and that's going to continue.

"She puts in more than 24/7 as Premier and the state can't afford to do anything other than have Gladys as leader."

Health Minister Brad Hazzard and Treasurer Dominic Perrottet also supported the Premier and praised her hard work during the bushfires, COVID-19 and recession.
