An inquiry wants answers as to whether Premier Gladys Berejiklian declared a conflict of interest in her position on a committee that signed off on $30 million for a Wagga Wagga conservatorium following lobbying by former MP Daryl Maguire.

Chris Hanger from the Department of Regional NSW said the latter portion was a pre-byelection commitment from the government following the exit of Wagga MP Mr Maguire, who resigned in disgrace after a corruption inquiry heard he sought commissions from a developer.

After Mr Hanger testified that the funding was signed off by the Expenditure Review Committee, of which Ms Berejiklian is a part, Greens MLC David Shoebridge asked, "are you aware whether or not a conflict of interest was ever placed on the record by the Premier, given she was in a close personal relationship with Mr Maguire?"

Liberal MLC Natalie Ward objected to the question, saying matters concerning Mr Maguire were the subject of an ongoing Independent Commission Against Corruption hearing, but Labor MLC John Graham, who chaired the parliamentary hearing last week, allowed the question to be put.

Mr Hanger said he was not aware whether or not a conflict of interest declaration had been provided by the Premier but was "happy to review".

Ms Berejiklian has undergone a media blitz in which she told the Sunday Telegraph she'd "given up on love" following a longstanding relationship with Mr Maguire, whom she had been revealed to have had a longstanding relationship with before the ICAC last week.

The corruption inquiry is investigating allegations Mr Maguire used part of his 19-year tenure in public office to reap personal financial benefits, including receiving bundles of currency in his parliamentary office as part of a cash-for-visas scam.

Last week the government faced questions in parliament from Labor regarding the funding for the conservatorium and Mr Maguire's involvement in lobbying for it, given he had resigned from the party when part of the funding was announced.

Labor's Rose Jackson MLC said it wasn't a matter of whether or not the project was worthwhile.

"These are questions about whether the very important fair and democratic processes of open government have been followed," Ms Jackson said.
