Former Victorian Australia Day Ambassador Alma Besserdin has told Sky News she resigned from her post because the state of Victoria at the moment made her feel she was back in war-torn Bosnia.
Ms Besserdin is the founder and director of Wimmigrants, a group which helps professional female immigrants achieve careers and integrate, and for her work she was made a Victorian Australia Day Ambassador by Premier Daniel Andrews.
She has now written a letter of resignation to the premier outlining how she feels ashamed to represent a government that is not representing the people.
Ms Besserdin said her and other European immigrants have gone through the stage of “losing their human rights” due to civil wars, and now feel in Victoria that they are “going back to where we came from”.
“I’m absolutely speechless with police,” she said.
“The last time I saw police like this with semi-automated pistols … (was) in Bosnia before I left, that was full-on war equipment.
“Why (do) police need to be fully equipped like they (are) going to war?
“Now I understand, they are going to war against their own people.”
Daniel Andrews boasts state's yet to be revealed check-in technology .
The premier has not yet been able to confirm when Victoria's contract tracing software will be introduced - despite NSW and the ACT bringing in their own technology last month. The Service NSW app allows residents to check into businesses who are using the COVID Safe QR code by scanning with their smartphone. 'Contact tracing is one of the most powerful tools to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community,' the Service NSW website reads.
