Dan Andrews tears into ABF officials for trans-Tasman blunder

Dan Andrews tears into ABF officials for trans-Tasman blunder Dan Andrews has blasted Australian Border Force officials for a massive trans-Tasman blunder that allowed 17 New Zealand nationals to fly into Melbourne. The Victorian capital is currently not accepting any international visitors as it works to contain a deadly second wave of COVID-19 cases which has killed more than 800 people. © Provided by Daily Mail Mr Andrews was highly critical of Greg Hunt (pictured) after he criticised Victoria's lockdown But the group were able to sidestep the restriction by travelling into Sydney and then transferring on a domestic flight.

Mr Andrews last week said restrictions would be eased on Sunday but the announcement was delayed as seven cases were recorded, causing backlash 'Now is the time': Melbourne shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants will finally open tomorrow night after three months of lockdown - here's everything you

'Despair and anger was creeping in': The Project's Carrie Bickmore shares her relief at Victorian Premier Dan Andrews ' decision to lift Melbourne 's very strict three-month lockdown.

Fronting an increasingly hostile yet largely unquestioning media, a tired Daniel Andrews yesterday explained why Melbourne would remain shut for at least a few more days. Andrews claimed that the opening would be paused for 24 to 48 hours while 1000 tests from the allegedly growing northern suburbs “outbreak” are processed.

“We have around 1000 swabs currently being processed — and we’re expecting even more today,” he said. “We’ll use the next couple of days to review those results and understand exactly how this virus is travelling.”

These are the changes coming to Melbourne life from 11.59pm Sunday

These are the changes coming to Melbourne life from 11.59pm Sunday Victorian premier Daniel Andrews has announced a number of social restrictions will be eased from midnight with businesses told they will have to wait another couple of weeks. The state reported two new cases on Sunday and a rolling daily case count of 7.5 in metropolitan Melbourne for the fortnight up to Saturday. Regional Victoria's two-week average is 0.5.

Family at centre of Melbourne 's new Covid outbreak blast health authorities' horror mistake - as Victoria records ZERO new cases and no deaths. No additional cases linked to the cluster were detected among the 1135 tests. Mr Andrews still hopes to unveil restriction changes for Melbourne by Tuesday.

Melbourne has stormed to victory in the NRL Grand Final despite a ferocious late comeback by the Penrith Panthers. Meanwhile in Melbourne , fans were discouraged from heading out of home to watch the game anywhere Premier Daniel Andrews was expected to ease restrictions on Sunday

But wait. Just last week Andrews’s brand new health minister, Martin Foley, boasted that 97% of COVID tests were being processed within 24 hours.

Then there’s the strange concern about the cluster itself. Even with the minimal data provided by the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), it’s clear that this cluster didn’t materialise in the last couple of days. The cluster itself is 39 cases across 11 households.

In the last 12 days, there have been 40 confirmed cases in Melbourne. Andrews would have been well aware of the northern suburbs cluster last week (given it was almost all Melbourne’s reported case load) when he first allowed 1000 people to watch the Cox Plate (a decision reversed after public outcry).

Apparently Victoria’s health advice allows super-spreading animal cruelty events to be held, but not small businesses to open.

Then there’s the final excuse: while yesterday’s 1000 tests all came back negative, there is now another 1400 tests pending in laboratories from Sunday.

Joseph Heller would be proud.

Daniel Andrews boasts state's yet to be revealed check-in technology .
The premier has not yet been able to confirm when Victoria's contract tracing software will be introduced - despite NSW and the ACT bringing in their own technology last month. On Friday, Victoria reported four new coronavirus cases and no deaths, leaving the state toll on 819 and the national figure at 907. The Service NSW app allows residents to check into businesses who are using the COVID Safe QR code by scanning with their smartphone. 'Contact tracing is one of the most powerful tools to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community,' the Service NSW website reads.
