The parents of a five-year-old boy critically injured after being hit by a rolling tyre on a footpath in Caboolture, north of Brisbane, say they have been "comforted" by an outpouring of support.
The boy suffered life-threatening head injuries on Wednesday after a nearby car allegedly performed a burnout and lost a wheel.
His parents issued a statement this afternoon, saying their son was in "a critical but stable condition in the paediatric intensive care unit" of Queensland Children's Hospital, while expressing gratitude to those who came to his aid.

Queensland police said the accident happened about 4:30pm on Wednesday at the intersection of King Street and Morayfield Road.
They allege that a ute driven by 18-year-old Blake Jennings-Davey span its tyres as the lights turned green, before a wheel dislodged, hitting the boy who was walking with his family outside Caboolture Square Shopping Centre.
Mr Jennings-Davey was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm and driving a safe but otherwise defective vehicle.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have dashcam footage to make contact.
