Multiple emergency warnings have been issued for an uncontrolled fire burning towards the town of Lucindale in South Australia's south-east.

The Country Fire Service (CFS) says the fire is burning "under severe weather conditions" and "may pose a threat to lives directly in its path".

An emergency warning has been issued for the township of Lucindale and Avenue Range.

A separate emergency warning is also current for Carrachers Road at Blackford, near Reedy Creek and the Mount Scott Conservation Park, while a watch and act message applies for a broader area.

A fire at Keilira in SA ' s south - east , which destroyed homes and killed thousands of livestock, has The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) said 3 per cent of the bushfires in the state this Police are treating as suspicious another grass fire which started on Friday in Canberra's south.

The CFS says the fire is burning in a south to south-easterly direction towards Lucindale and that "conditions are continually changing".

CFS state duty commander Brenton Hastie said six firefighting aircraft had been called in to help battle the blaze which is "incredibly difficult to control at the moment".

"We've got a relatively large, fast-moving grass fire. It's in excess of 250 hectares at the moment," he said.

"What we've done is put a watch and act message over Lucindale and surrounds. That means anyone who's in Lucindale and is not prepared to stay and defend — they need to leave now.

"They need to shift to a bushfire safer place [and] travel in an easterly direction towards Naracoorte.

"For those people who are in the area covered by our emergency warning message — it's too late to leave and they need to shelter in place."

Lucindale resident Kim Corrigan, whose husband is currently fighting the fire, said she could "see a heck of a lot of smoke" and was currently preparing to evacuate.

"I'm just going to get organised and I'll just head away from it," she said.

"This is the first time I've felt a little bit frightened of a fire."

Total fire bans are currently in place across most of SA, with an extreme fire danger rating for the state's lower south east.
