Disruption is expected on one of the busiest roads in the Lake District as Cumbria County Council start work on what they have called 'essential resurfacing.' The council also plan to carry out work, costing approximately £350,000, in other areas of the county including: Improvements to the road surface on A591 Market Place in Ambleside from the evening of Tuesday 7 May for seven weekday nights. Early construction work began on the Warringah Freeway upgrade this weekend, which funnels more than four million people through North Sydney every week.

Transport Minister Andrew Constance warned of traffic disruptions, but said the work needed to happen and heavy construction is likely to begin later this year.

How the US and China can jump-start cooperation on climate change

How the US and China can jump-start cooperation on climate change To be legitimate climate leaders on the world stage, the US and China must start by raising ambition at home.China and the US, the world’s top two economies, together account for 43 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions. And while much of the industrialized world is looking to the United States for signaling on climate action, many countries in the developing world look to China for guidance.

Australia ' s billion Future Submarine Program is "dangerously off track" according to a new report that urges the Government to ditch the controversial project and consider a nuclear option. Key points: The report indicates there are fears the current project is at a high risk of failing. The Defence Minister denies those fears and maintains the project remains on track. Under a proposed "Plan B" scenario, the company that designed the Collins class submarines would prepare an updated design.

Australia is officially in its first recession for almost three decades, with the June quarter GDP numbers showing the economy went backwards by 7 per cent — the worst fall on record and slightly worse than most economists had predicted. Key points While this might be Australia ' s worst recession on record, it is not as bad as the downturns experienced in countries which have suffered worse coronavirus outbreaks. Australia ' s recession has been relatively milder than most other developed economies.

"It's now time for some surgery," he said.

"There is no doubt that this is the busiest and most congested point in the road network, not only in NSW but also Australia."

The combined cost of the projects, which includes a 6.5-kilometre tunnel from an underground junction for the WestConnex toll road at Rozelle to the upgraded Warringah Freeway at North Sydney, is slated at $14 billion.

Mr Constance said the Warringah Freeway upgrades would likely take three years, while the Western Harbour Tunnel has been slated for completion by 2026.

About 20 properties will be acquired as part of the upgrade in total, while four will be acquired during the tunnel construction, according to an environmental report released last year.

"I apologise in advance for the construction and disruption, but it is work that has to happen," Mr Constance said.

The government estimates drivers will save 20 minutes travelling between Sydney Olympic Park and North Sydney, and 15 minutes between North Sydney and the airport.

Mr Constance said the upgrades included 4 kilometres of road realignment, with a dedicated southbound bus lane and active transport links part of the works.

The Warringah Freeway upgrades will form a link between the future Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link.

Twin 6.5 kilometre tunnels from an underground junction for the WestConnex toll road at Rozelle will burrow under the harbour and connect to the Warringah Freeway at North Sydney.

The tunnels will be built in a trench on the harbour floor, and large prefabricated concrete tubes lowered into place from barges above. Concerns were raised last year by the Port Authority of NSW about the movement of toxic sludge that will be dug up during construction.

The seven-kilometre Beaches Link will then extend from the Warringah Freeway to Balgowlah and Seaforth in the city's north.
