Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced Queensland has taken the next step in its bid for the 2032 Olympic Games.
“Yesterday our cabinet endorsed our formal proposal for the Olympics and a part of the formal proposal was looking at where we would host the opening and closing ceremonies,” she said.
“The logical place is right here at the Gabba.
“What we’re talking about today is transformational.”
The premier said they were now in discussions with the federal government over funding, but her government was investing $5.6 billion to build Brisbane’s new underground.
“It actually links the Gabba with the Cross River Rail."
“We believe that in the next 10 years it is very feasible to make sure that we deliver what is needed for the [Olympic] Games.”

Brisbane could find out whether it has won the rights to host the 2032 Olympics as soon as July, the Queensland premier says.This comes as the state government has struck a 50-50 infrastructure funding deal with the federal government for Brisbane's 2032 Olympics bid.
