The Channel Seven show hasn't captured audiences as hoped - and insiders are blaming the cast, an alleged source told The Daily Telegraph on Saturday.

A lack of 'eye candy' and 'young, hot singles' in favour of an 'all ages' line-up is the culprit, an insider claims.

'When something underperforms like this, obviously fingers get pointed and there is a lot of chatter that the casting just wasn't right,' the alleged source told the paper.

They went on to say that Big Brother would have done better if it had featured the sort of cast that has been a hit for Nine's Married At First Sight.

'I think there is some thought that that show could have benefited more from a cast that reflects something like Married At First Sight,' they added.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Big Brother Australia is averaging just 500,000 an episode.
