A royal commission into Crown's Perth casino operations won't report until next year after being granted an extension.

The inquiry had been due to present its final report in mid-November but that timeline has been extended by the state government to March 4, 2022.

Premier Mark McGowan on Friday said the three commissioners, former Supreme Court justices Neville Owen and Lindy Jenkins and former WA auditor-general Colin Murphy, had asked for more time to carry out their investigations.

Why Kate may not release photo for Prince George's birthday this year A royal expert has claimed Kate Middleton may not share her annual, adorable portrait of her son Prince George this year because she's "upset".

He said the reporting extension would allow the WA inquiry to fully consider the findings of the Victorian royal commission into Crown, which will not report until October 15.

"The state government believes that public interest will be best served if the Perth Casino Royal Commission has sufficient time to produce its final report," Mr McGowan said in a statement.

An interim report by the commissioners was handed to the McGowan government last month but is yet to be released.

Mr McGowan said the report would be tabled when parliament resumes next month.

The findings of the interim report will deal substantially with the adequacy of the existing regulatory framework in relation to casinos and gaming in WA.

If Crown sinks, what’s to stop the next casino operator from ‘flagrant’ misconduct?

If Crown sinks, what’s to stop the next casino operator from ‘flagrant’ misconduct? Melbourne's Crown casino needs "cleaning out" but how will Victoria untangle itself from its own addiction to gambling revenue? After the counsel assisting the Melbourne royal commission into Crown, Adrian Finanzio SC, made the extraordinary declaration yesterday that the casino giant should lose its Melbourne licence, both the Victorian Premier Dan Andrews and Opposition Leader Michael O’Brien were suddenly united in their condemnation of a gambling giant that had run roughshod over both sides of politics for decades.

The final report from the commission will look more closely at the suitability of Crown Perth to hold the state's casino licence.

Hearings will resume on Monday with opening statements to be delivered before witnesses are called from Wednesday.

Former Crown director John Poynton, who resigned in February, will be the first witness to appear in the second phase of the inquiry.

A bombshell NSW report into the company's operations earlier this year found Crown was not suitable to hold the licence for a Sydney casino because it had facilitated money laundering through bank accounts held by subsidiaries.

A merger proposal for Crown Resorts was withdrawn on Friday after the Victorian royal commission raised the prospect the gaming group could lose the licence for its Melbourne casino.

Star Entertainment, which operates The Star casino in Sydney, said it had limited engagement with Crown since it launched the non-binding offer to create a $12 billion tourism and entertainment giant.
