Israel, Lebanon inch closer to resolve maritime dispute as terror group threatens over drilling Talks between Israel and Lebanon on a prized swath of Mediterranean Sea appear to be making progress as the Biden administration urges the two countries to expedite a resolution. For decades, Israel and Lebanon have been locked in non-direct negotiations, mostly with the help of U.S. mediators, over an 860-square-kilometer area of the sea that both countries hope to explore for oil and gas resources.

Hobart grandmother and convicted murderer Susan Neill-Fraser has been released from jail on parole after 13 years behind bars.

The 68-year-old was freed from Tasmania's Risdon Prison on parole on Tuesday morning.

She was sentenced to 23 years in jail for killing partner Bob Chappell aboard the couple's yacht, the Four Winds, on Australia Day 2009.

Neill-Fraser was granted parole in mid-September.

Neill-Fraser Support Group president Rosie Crumpton-Crook said the fight to clear her name would continue.

New Met chief promises to be 'ruthless' in kicking out corrupt officers

New Met chief promises to be 'ruthless' in kicking out corrupt officers Scotland Yard's new commissioner has promised to be "ruthless" in kicking out corrupt, misogynist and racist police officers, but admitted he will need help. © PA Sir Mark Rowley wrote in an open letter: "I have taken over as the leader of an organisation that has been far too weak in taking on those who undermine the honest and dedicated majority who determinedly serve the public. © Other Sarah Everard's killer, Wayne Couzens "And I have set out how I will be ruthless at rooting out from this organisation the corrupting officers including racists and misogynists.

"Obviously we're delighted and she can be reunited with her family," Ms Crumpton-Crook told AAP.

"But she's not being released as a free woman, she will have parole conditions and the label of "convicted murderer" hanging over her head. This is not the end, it's the start of the fight to get her name cleared.'

Neill-Fraser has been fighting to clear her name since her conviction and previously indicated she would remain in prison while her conviction stood.

Ms Crumpton-Crook said Neill-Fraser had been demonised since Mr Chappell went missing.

"There have been so many vile rumours and she has been treated so unfairly."

Neill-Fraser had launched several unsucessful appeals against her conviction, including to the High Court.

She was found to have attacked Mr Chappell and dumped his body in Hobart's River Derwent but has maintained her innocence. Mr Chappell's body has never been found.

Former premier and attorney-general Lara Giddings, a staunch supporter of Neill-Fraser, welcomed the parole decision.

"It will be better for her to fight to prove her innocence on the outside than it was inside prison," she told AAP in September.

But Ms Giddings said it would take a commission of inquiry to "get to the truth" and help identify systemic issues.

"If we do not stop and learn from the case, it is only a matter of when the next innocent person is found guilty of a crime they did not commit," she said.
