Allison Baden-Clay's family has remembered an "amazing and inspirational" woman who was "born to dance", as they handed out the first ballet scholarship in her name.

Premier Annastacia Palaszcuk named Brisbane Year 12 student Taji Hennessy as the inaugural recipient of the $5,000 award.

Ms Baden-Clay was murdered by her husband Gerard in 2012, but her family said the scholarship allowed the mother of three to be remembered in a positive way.

Her sister Vanessa Fowler gave an emotional speech.

Ms Fowler fondly remembered Allison's passion for dance.

"Allison was born to dance and excelled at it by the age of four," she said.

"She had that spark, that bright smile, and the soft arms and pointed feet and she filled the stage.

"Allison was the ever feminine ballet dancer with spirited stage presence."

It was a passion she pursued into her teenage years, and now one of her own daughters, Hannah, is following in her mother's footsteps, performing lead roles in many studio ballet performances.

"It's wonderful to have Allison's daughters here today to see their mum's efforts being recognised and to know she will continue to help others to succeed," Ms Fowler said.

"The three girls continue to thrive and excel in all that they do, showing us that their mother lives on through them.

"She would be proud to know that this scholarship is a lasting legacy of her commitment and dedication to dance."

Award winner Taji Hennessy said her goal was to become a professional dancer.

"It's amazing — I'm so grateful," she said.

Ms Hennessy described herself as a late starter, having only taken up ballet four years ago.

"I would love to be in Queensland Ballet — it's such an amazing company, or [go] overseas — I just love ballet and I want to pursue it," Ms Hennessy said.
