A man was taken to hospital in a serious condition yesterday after crashing a hang glider and falling 20 metres to the ground at a park south of Sydney.

Emergency services were called to Stanwell Park Beach on the NSW south coast around 5pm when the 52-year-old man’s hang glider clipped trees, causing him to crash to the ground.

Police believe the man was attempting to hang glide from Bald Hill down to the beach when his glider appeared to stall, according to a statement.

Inspector Matt Stirling of NSW Ambulance described the nature of the man’s injuries and the way he sustained them as “severe”.

“Essentially, the patient has come in over the tree tops, scored some of the trees and he’s had quite a heavy landing on the ground without any deacceleration,” he told media.

“(The) patient’s sustained head, chest and pelvis injuries and he’s’ been transported to St George Hospital in a stable condition.

“Given the magnitude of his injuries, it’s quite a severe injury and the mechanism for which it’s occurred is quite significant.”

Authorities are making inquiries into the crash.

Hayne 'unrecognisable' playing for Eels again .
Parramatta's favourite son Jarryd Hayne was 'unrecognisable' from his former self according to a Nine commentator. "To my eyes it didn't look like they were trying," the Sports Sunday panellist said. "There was one moment with five minutes to go, Jarryd Hayne out on the right touch line, got the ball five metres out, two guys in front of him but neither of them set to go. "The Jarryd Hayne that I knew would been bang, through, put it in [for a try]. And this Jarryd Hayne was just whatever, he fell over, but he was unrecognisable from what he was.
