  Australian regulator clears Saputo's $1 billion takeover of Murray Goulburn Australia's competition regulator on Wednesday approved a planned $1 billion takeover of the country's largest dairy processor, Murray Goulburn Co-operative (MGC.AX), by Canada's Saputo Inc (SAP.TO).The deal, which Australia's largest dairy processor says is key to its survival, was approved after Saputo agreed to sell a milk plant in Victoria state to address concerns from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

Prison guards at Long Bay and Silverwater have been ordered to terminate a 48-hours strike after workers walked off the job over proposed job cuts, leaving skeleton staff to manage the prisons .

Prison officers have walked off the job at Sydney's Long Bay jail in a dispute over staffing changes with the New South Wales Government, as officers at Silverwater and Goulburn supermax also prepare to strike.

Corrective Services NSW said the "unauthorised" industrial action was "unnecessary and inappropriate".

It said the matter would be referred to the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC).

In 2016, the NSW Government announced the prison would close, although a date has not yet been set.

Corrective Services NSW said it had introduced "benchmarking" at the facility to "raise standards and improve accountability by measuring safety, security and inmate rehabilitation outcomes".

"It will ensure prisons are efficient and taxpayers receive best value for money," they said in a statement.
