False killer whales appear similar to normal killer whales but have no white colour and are smaller.

They are a species of dolphin and can grow as long as 6 metres and weigh up to 2.2 tonnes.

The rare creatures have also been spotted at Narrabeen, Shelly Beach and Dee Why.

Mr Eady said the spotting was a nice reminder that 'we co-exist with nature.'

'It capped off a great afternoon of surfing just to see that nature is still around us,' he said.

'It's good to know that people are still interested and intrigued by nature in this digital age.'
