A man police allege heads the Australian arm of an international "dark web" drug importation syndicate has been arrested in Sydney.

A Sydney strike force in February began investigating the syndicate believed to be importing illicit drugs from Europe to Australia through postal services.

With help from Australian Border Force, Australian Federal Police and interstate police, the strike force tracked suspicious packages arriving in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.

Police will allege in court these packages contained ketamine, MDMA and cocaine.

About 10.30am on Thursday, investigators arrested a 33-year-old man in Vaucluse in Sydney's eastern suburbs. A search warrant executed at a unit in the suburb unearthed cocaine, computers, mobile phones, a diamond ring, $70,000 cash and $350,000 worth of cryptocurrency. A second search warrant was later executed at a financial institution in the city and documents were seized.
