Jian Li Tang ran over the toddler when her car crossed onto the wrong side of the road at Eastwood in Sydney's north-west in July 2017, 9News reported.

The court heard the 72-year-old has devoted her life to caring for others, and since the incident she has developed ongoing mental health issues.

The boy's mother, who was walking across the road with the child at the time, was unharmed during the collision.

Following the accident, Tang was forced to stop working due to severe depression and anxiety, as well as post-traumatic stress from killing the infant, the court heard.
