The second season of the CBS All Access series is set for somewhat of a creative overhaul, with the show being made lighter and more humour being introduced.

It's also planning to add a couple of familiar characters from the original series, including Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and Spock (Ethan Peck).

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Kurtzman said: "I will tell you that you should not expect to see him this season but that doesn’t mean he won’t be back."

In one of the biggest twists of the first season, Captain Lorca was revealed to be from the Mirror Universe, before being killed off.

But what with this being science fiction, it's perfectly reasonable to think that they'll find some way to bring him back – and the latter part of Kurtzman's comments appears to suggest as much.

Another character fans shouldn't expect to see in season two of Discovery is Captain Kirk, because there's a ten-year gap between the Netflix show and his arrival on the Enterprise.
