Seachange sees viewers change… the channel

Seachange sees viewers change… the channel Nine's Seachange may need a vacation after viewers left in droves following a strong debut last week.

Part- time Karl : Half the time , he ' s not waking up with Today . So why has Karl been absent from Today screens for three of the past five months ? He also had a week away from Today to film This Time Next Year , and a week overseas filming for 60 Minutes,” said a network spokesman.

While Karl Stefanovic might have lost top billing as Today host , there’ s a good reason why Nine won’t dump him completely. His dumping came after a horror year for the Gold Logie winner and his brother Peter Stefanovic , who announced on Tuesday that he was leaving Nine altogether.

This Time Next Year was the fifth most watched show of the Monday night, while the most watched program was The Block, which drew in 842,000 viewers.

Karl's show started at 8.40pm, going head-to-head with Have You Been Paying Attention? in the time slot.

And the Channel Ten's comedy panel show came out on top, with Australian Survivor and Home and Away also attracting larger audiences than Karl's return to TV.

Heavy lifting from The Block, A Current Affair and Nine News allowed Channel Nine to achieve the biggest audience share of the night with 28.5 per cent, closely followed by Seven with 27.3 per cent.

Karl was doing the media rounds leading up to his return to television, including appearances on the radio and in magazines.

The TV host previously said he had put all of his effort into This Time Next Year and took the message of the show to heart.

Speaking to Nine Entertainment on Thursday, Karl said he has tried to be a better person over the past two years.

'If I'm presenting that show (This Time Next Year) then I've got to live by it as well,' Karl said.

'I've tried over the last 12 months to two years to be a better person and to try and be easier to live with and to try and make life easier for those around me and it's a motto I continue to live by.'

The Channel Nine heavyweight said although his show is about yearly targets, he constantly tries to be a better person everyday.

But whether This Time Next year met its own targets remains to be seen.
