Gerwig, who directed 2017's acclaimed Lady Bird, re-teams with Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet for the adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's 19th century classic novel about four young women coming of age in Civil War-era U.S.

The film follows the March sisters —Jo (Ronan), Meg (Emma Watson), Amy (Florence Pugh) and Beth March (Eliza Scanlen) — along with their mother Marmee (Laura Dern), their tough Aunt March (Meryl Streep) and the boy-next-door Laurie (Chalamet). The cast also includes Bob Odenkirk, Chris Cooper and James Norton.

Police release images of man after women assaulted Police investigating the indecent assault of three women in Sydney have released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak with. Officers believe the man can assist them after the women were indecently assaulted at Wiley Park, in the city's south west, last month. The first took place between at about 6.20pm on Wednesday July 10 at Shadforth Street. © NSW Police CCTV footage shows the man on July 10. Then on Monday, July 15 two women were allegedly indecently assaulted in separate incidents at about 6.10pm and 6.20pm at the intersection of Stanlea Parade and Wiley Lane and outside Cornelia Street.

Ronan portrays an aspiring writer who is working on a novel about her life and sisters, who are determined to live their life on their own terms.

"Make it short and spicy," an editor advises. "And if the main character is a girl, make sure she's married at the end."

However, Jo is determined to prove women are more than just wives.

"Women, they have minds and they have souls as well as just hearts," Ronan's Jo says in the trailer. "And they've got ambition and they've got talent as well as just beauty. And I'm so sick of people saying that love is just all a women is fit for."

Ronan is the latest to take the lead of Jo March, also notably played by Katharine Hepburn in 1933 and Winona Ryder in 1994. This marks the second on-screen romance between Ronan and Chalamet after Lady Bird. Christian Bale previously played Laurie in 1994.

Sony Pictures has set Little Women for a Christmas release, the tail end of Oscar season.
