Pop superstar Katy Perry will re-ignite her love affair with cricket when she performs at the Women's T20 World Cup Final at the MCG.

The performance will coincide with the International Women's Day celebration on Sunday March 8 in what will be the world's largest women's cricket match.

Perry will perform before and after the match in what is hoped to be a record crowd at the MCG.

The announcement was made 100 days from the start of the tournament that Australia will host from February 21.

Perry is looking forward to performing at the MCG on a day that means a lot to her personally.

“I'm all about celebrating equality and the achievements of women, which naturally happens on a global scale on International Women's Day," Katy Perry said.

Perry has quite an extensive history with cricket, having performed at the IPL in 2012.

The performance was particularly memorable for her chemistry with Australian cult figure Doug Bollinger who she appeared on stage with.

The performance actually drew some complaints and an Indian court heard claims of 'indecency' against Perry and Bollinger at the time.
