Pocket Universe Productions, Dufris' production company, announced his passing on Wednesday after years in the voice acting business.

William Dufris , a prolific voice actor and audio book producer best known for his role as the original Bob the Builder character in the popular children’s television, has The company noted that Dufris died after a battle with cancer , though did not share more details about exactly when he passed away.

Dufris had worked in the animation and voice acting industry for decades, lending his voice to characters from the US version of Bob the Builder and other children's cartoons, as well as several video games in the 90s and early 2000s.

He's also worked narrating audiobooks, lending his voice to multiple characters in everything from fantasy novels to children's books.

But he always credited his work on animated series for his success across all forms of voice work.

"From doing animation I learned to breathe in character," he told AudioFile Magazine. "It enables me to switch quickly to the next character."

Other big names in the animation industry are mourning his loss following the announcement, including Dirk Maggs, who served as voice director on several of Dufris' Bob the Builder jobs.

Maggs shared a collection of photos of Dufris to Twitter on Wednesday, name checking several of Dufris' projects in the caption.
