The @SussexRoyal account, which was created just under a year ago, set records when it launched, breaking the Guinness World Record for the fastest Instagram account to reach one million followers.

Since then the couple has been praised for their social media approach after they created monthly themes for their account which saw them highlighting a new cause or theme each month.

They also made Time Magazine's 25 Most Influential People on the Internet list just three months after their account's launch, underlining the huge impact the royal couple had made.

The end of the @SussexRoyal Instagram account, as well as their official website of the same name, falls in line with the agreement the couple made with The Queen and Buckingham Palace to no longer use the word 'royal' in any capacity moving forward.

The move also sees them no longer actively using their 'His and Her Royal Highness' styling, although they will officially retain it.

According to a spokesperson for the couple "both the Instagram account and the website will remain in existence online for the foreseeable future."

Adding that Harry and Meghan will spend the next few months focusing on their family "and continuing to do what they can, safely and privately, to support and work with their pre-existing charitable commitments while developing their future non-profit organisation."

It would seem the developments for their non-profit are going well, with the confirmation the couple have hired former Bill and Melinda Gates staffer Catherine St-Laurent as their chief of staff and executive director for their currently unnamed charitable organisation.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared in a statement to BAZAAR.com that they are "proud to be joined by Catherine St-Laurent in this next chapter with us.

"Her leadership and proven track record working within two organisations that have tremendous impact in the world – the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Pivotal Ventures – make her an incredible asset and we are excited to have her on our team."
