Japan top court sides with tattoo artist in test case

Japan top court sides with tattoo artist in test case Japan's top court has sided with a tattoo artist who was fined for practising without a medical licence, in a case that revived debate about the country's uneasy relationship with body ink. Though tattoos have a long history in Japan and the nation has long boasted leading artists, body ink is still often associated with "anti-social" elements, particularly members of criminal groups known as the yakuza. People with tattoos are often prevented from using public facilities like swimming pools or baths, and in 2015, Osaka tattooist Taiki Masuda was arrested for allegedly violating the Medical Practioners' Act by tattooing people without a doctor's licence.

Sega is reportedly developing a live-action 'Yakuza' movie.

The video game company has teamed up with 1212 Entertainment and Wild Sheep Content to bring their hit game series to the big screen, according to Variety.

Although no script writers have been linked to the movie, Erik Barmack, Roberto Grande and Joshua Long will serve as the film's producers.

While details surrounding the film's narrative are currently unknown, Variety and 1212 Entertainment have hinted that it will follow the adventures of the franchise protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu.

1212 Entertainment issued a statement to Variety, which read: "'Yakuza' offers us a new playground in which to set compelling stories with complex characters in a unique environment that audiences have rarely seen before.

"The saga of Kazuma Kiryu has a built-in cinematic appeal - a mix of kinetic action with bursts of comedy, multiple converging storylines, and a gripping journey towards redemption."

In 2007, Sega teamed up with ArtPort and CJ Entertainment for the Japanese-language 'Yakuza: Like A Dragon', which was directed by Takashi Miike and based on the original 2005 game.

Meanwhile, the newest game in the franchise, 'Yakuza: Like A Dragon', is to be released on November 13 for Xbox One, Windows 10, PlayStation 4 and Steam after it was already released by Sega in Japan in January this year.

The release date was confirmed in a trailer which was dropped last month, which showed off the various different jobs players can set for their characters, including a musician, a breakdancer or a dealer in a casino.

'Yakuza: Like a Dragon' will mark the first time the franchise has moved away from being set in Japan's capital city, Tokyo, with the action instead happening in Yokohama.

The game also doesn't use the same real-time combat system that previous titles have, instead opting to use classic turn-based RPG combat.
