Considered one of the greatest violinists in the world, Renaud Capuçon, very active on social networks since the first confinement to support the cultural sector, will discover a new role. In a few days, he will become a columnist and spokesperson for his favorite discipline on RTL.
On March 16, you will bring classical music into the RTL grid ...
RENAUD CAPUÇON. This is a real first, and for the radio, and for myself. I am very happy about it, I love sharing my favorites! I will do it twice a month, in the cultural event "Let yourself be tempted", between 9 am and 9:30 am, for a column that will last 3 to 4 minutes. Music has always been very present on RTL. He lacked the classic, and, as an artist, I am happy to be his ambassador on a generalist radio with magnificent audiences.
Trump's Damage to a Cold War Icon
The previous administration’s partisan takeover of America’s international broadcasters failed. What’s to prevent a future administration from trying again?Within days of the Senate’s June 2020 confirmation of Michael Pack, a conservative filmmaker nominated by Trump to run the agency, the portrait was removed and the quotation painted over. Steve Capus, Lansing’s former senior adviser, told me it was “a petty move”—a precursor of the changes to come.
How did this project come about?
The station offered it to me. I accepted with all the more enthusiasm as I am a regular listener. I listen to it very early every morning, and more when I'm traveling. There are certainly some excellent specialty radio stations that show off this musical style nicely, but I'm proud to open it up to an audience that isn't necessarily always classical.
What are you going to offer your listeners?
RTL gave me carte blanche. I will be able to send positive messages, talk about young musicians who are releasing a record, others who are not so young but extremely talented, not sufficiently known or a little forgotten. I would like to be able to present my latest discoveries and artists I love, such as pianist Béatrice Rana and the record by young violinist Daniel Lozakovich. I also hope to announce good news there, like the reopening of festivals… It's a great opportunity to speak in an open, serious and friendly way about the classic. I am a violinist, I run the Easter festival in Aix-en-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône), I teach… My role is to focus on musicians, to be the spokesperson, in this period tragic for the culture, of this environment which has been extremely damaged for a year.

Since the first confinement, you have been very present on social networks…
It was my way of fighting. I held onto my violin, posting live videos. I experienced it as a unique challenge, being there every morning at 9 am, no matter what. I learned and reworked a lot of works for the occasion, it was fascinating. Without it, I could have been depressed. This experience, unique and unprecedented for me, lasted 56 days. She created a very powerful bond with the audience that I never would have imagined as such.
hypermarket Do you think that confinement has developed the attraction of the French for the classic?
There was a visceral need for all music during this very difficult time. People needed to hear things other than anxiety-inducing info taps. I clearly felt on social networks a real craze for the classic. The number of Internet users who follow me has increased enormously. On Twitter, it went from 20,000 to 50,000 followers, on Instagram, from 12,000 to 50,000 and on Facebook, from 12,000 to 87,000! It would never have happened in a normal period.
Friday March 5, you will accumulate: an album and a concert in streaming ...
It's true. It was on that day that my new CD (Label Erato, at Warner Classics) was released, dedicated to the British composer and conductor Edward Elgar, whose concerto and violin sonata I performed with the pianist. Stephen Hough and the legendary conductor Simon Rattle lead the London Symphony Orchestra. And in the evening, at 9 p.m., I go on for an hour with a concert organized by My Digital Arena, a series of exclusive shows, broadcast live and live streaming (price: 22 euros per connection) from the Parisian theater of the Gymnasium. I selected a repertoire of short pieces, such as Elgar's “Salut d'Amour”, but also Debussy's “Clair de Lune” or, lighter, a cover of Stéphane Grappelli's “Valseuses”.
