Philip and Elizabeth's paths would eventually cross again, but in the years before they became an iconic couple, the blue-eyed, ash-blond boy earned a reputation as a ladies' man and distinguished naval officer.The groom barely stole a glance as they walked up the aisle.

Prince Philip's death today, on April 9, casts a shadow over a day normally of joy for Prince Charles and Camilla.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall are marking their wedding anniversary today, 16 years after their civil marriage in 2005.

They wed 35 years after they first met, at Windsor Guildhall, with Prince William serving as best man.

The Queen did not attend the official ceremony but did attend the blessing, service of prayer and dedication, held inside St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.

While usually Prince Charles, 72, and Camilla, 73, share a photo with fans to mark their anniversary, today they shared more sombre news.

The Clarence House social media accounts only shared the Royal Family's announcement of the Duke of Edinburgh's passing.

"It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh," the announcement reads.

"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle."

Photos from Prince Charles and Camilla's big day show the whole royal family making their way down the stairs of St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle after the blessing.

The location will now be where the family say their goodbyes to Prince Philip, who died aged 99.

The Duke of Edinburgh will not have a state funeral amid coronavirus restrictions in the UK, where a maximum of 30 people can attend.
