Socceroos icon Mark Schwarzer has revealed a number of clubs attempted to bring him out of retirement with the latest bid coming from an English side when the Aussie was turning 46.
After a decorated playing career, the veteran goalkeeper hung up his gloves in 2016 following a stint with Leicester City.
Just two years prior, the green and gold legend became the oldest player to make his Champions League debut when he lined up for Chelsea against Atletico Madrid in 2014 at the age of 41.
While Schwarzer's final four seasons in the Premier League saw him remain largely on the bench, he showed when he was on the pitch that age wasn't holding him back too much.
How to Watch 'The Great,' 'Hollywood' and More Historical Drama Series
ET has rounded up the best of these series -- new and old -- now streaming on Amazon, Hulu, Netflix and more platforms. BelgraviaAfter the success of Downton Abbey (see below), creator Julian Fellowes and producer Gareth Neame reunited to adapt Fellowes’ own novel about aspirations, lies and affairs of overlapping families living in Belgravia, the affluent district of London during the mid-1800s. Their stories begin at a now-infamous ball that took place two days before the Battle of Waterloo, where scandal unfolds.
As such, a number of clubs tried to lure the Aussie out of retirement once he decided to stop playing, with Championship side Derby County trying their luck as late as 2018 when Schwarzer would have turned 46.
"I think I had about three offers to come back out of retirement," Schwarzer said on Optus Sport'spodcast.
"I retired in 2016 and 2018 was the last time I got offered an opportunity to come back out of retirement. It was pretty flattering. Obviously had to decline.
"When you're out for that long, particularly at my age, it goes really, really quickly. I reckon I would've broken down all the time.
"The last one was at Championship level...it was Derby County because I knew the goalkeeping coach. They were short on numbers, had a few injuries and he wanted me to come in and do a job.
Matthew Perry unveils FIRST Friends reunion behind-the-scenes photo
The 51-year-old Friends star confirmed the show cast were filming their HBO Max reunion special after posting a photo of himself in a makeup chair. The 51-year-old comic actor shared a photo on Friday night of himself in an unguarded moment while he had his makeup done professionally in his dressing room.
"I would have at least been a number two sitting on the bench, if not playing, if and when needed. I just said, 'Listen, I can't do it. I won't do myself justice and I won't do you any justice.'
"When you've stopped playing and doing the day to day at that level because the intensity is so great you lose it really, really quickly.
"I'd made my mind up. I actually wasn't missing it. The first year after I retired I did nothing. Did zero exercise, I put on weight, I was pretty shocking when I looked at myself in the mirror."
Schwarzer also revealed he turned down the chance to become a training keeper with Manchester United following his decision to step away from the game.
In the years since hanging up his boots, the Socceroos legend has moved heavily into media and is a regular pundit for Optus Sport.
