In a chat with Rob Lowe, 57, on his, Winfrey, 67, reflected on a question she asked actress Sally Field about her partner Burt Reynolds several years ago.
"This is when I was younger and I was not living from the point of view of the surrogate," Winfrey explained. "I asked her, 'Does Burt sleep with his toupee on?'"
Field and Reynolds dated in the '70s. They met on the set of the movie Smokey and the Bandit. He later died in September 2018 at 82 years of age.

Winfrey repeated that she crossed the line. "It was like, 'Whoa, Sally went cold on me on live TV,'" she recalled to Lowe. "I deserved it, I deserved it, I deserved it, 'cause that is such an inappropriate question."
In 2015, Reynolds toldin 2015, three years before his death, that Field was the "love of my life."
"I miss her terribly," he said. "Even now, it's hard on me. I don't know why I was so stupid. Men are like that, you know. You find the perfect person, and then you do everything you can to screw it up."
