The United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (the Binuh) seems to let go of the Prime Minister Claude Joseph, who has taken power in Haiti since the assassination of President Jovenel Moses, on July 7th. A decision that arouses the incomprehension of the Commission for the search for a Haitian solution to the crisis.

In a statement Saturday, the United Nations Office indicated that the Core Group, composed among others from the ambassadors of Germany, France and the United States, asked Ariel Henry, the other Prime Minister, appointed by Jovenel Moses Before his death, to form a government.

Slain Haitian President’s Bodyguards to Be Questioned as Turmoil Deepens

Slain Haitian President’s Bodyguards to Be Questioned as Turmoil Deepens Haiti has descended into further turmoil in the aftermath of President Jovenel Moïse’s assassination, with questions swirling around who was involved in the midnight attack, what countries they hailed from—and with who’s actually running the country. Since Moïse’s death, Claude Joseph, who had resigned as prime minister shortly before the assassination, has taken the reins of the country as interim prime minister. But he’s faced resistance from Ariel Henry, a neurosurgeon who Moïse had named as prime minister days before his death.

"The Core Group (composed of the ambassadors of Germany, Brazil, Canada, Spain, the United States of America, France, the European Union, the Special Representative of the Organization of American States and the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General) calls for the formation of a consensual and inclusive government. In this objective, he strongly encourages the Prime Minister Ariel Henry to continue the mission entrusted to him to form such a government.

This declaration then intervenes that a civil society commission was in full work to find a national agreement on a transition plan

the Binuh Communiqué arouses the misunderstanding of Jacques Ted Saint-Dic, attached to Port. -AU-PRINCE by Marie Normand of the International RFI Service. Spokesman for this commission for the search for a Haitian solution to the crisis, he denounces the "hasty decisions" of the binuh. "The binuh has a precipitation each time on decisions. These are hasty decisions. Just after the assassination of the president, they had decided that it would be Claude Joseph. And suddenly, now, they come out this press release saying that now is Ariel Henry.

Who will lead Haiti after president's killing?

Who will lead Haiti after president's killing? Three days after the assassination of Haitian leader Jovenel Moise, questions are mounting about how the power vacuum left by his sudden death will be filled, in a violence-wracked country with no working parliament and no workable succession process. The following is a look at what could happen next in the impoverished Caribbean nation, which was already mired in a deep political and security crisis when the slaying -- its motive still unclear -- took place early Wednesday:- Three weakened branches of power -With Haiti's executive branch brutally shaken by the murder of the president, the two other branches -- the legislative and the judiciary -- face enormous pressu

It is a delay measure. Maybe they have difficulties with Mr. Joseph currently ... so they are giving up a little time. It's a way to short-circuit what we are doing.

Jacques Ted Saint-Dic is concerned about such a position, likely to throw oil on the fire while the inner situation is calm, given the social and political context.

"Haitian society is organizing to make a proposal. In this context, I do not think it would be a reasonable approach to the United Nations. Especially since, until today, the situation of peace in this country, the calm of the Haitian national people, today, does not invite us precisely, to make a provocation more and (to) to degenerate the situation ".

For the record, Claude Joseph, appointed Prime Minister by President Joovel Moses in April 2021, had left the Primature and congratulated his successor, Ariel Henry, appointed July 5 by the President. But the latter was finally could not take office before Jovenel Moses's death. Claude Joseph has kept the reins of power and declared the state of siege throughout the territory, which concretely gives the executive of the enhanced powers in the field of search and also of a prohibition of meeting. He also decreed fifteen days of national mourning in tribute to Jovenel Moses until July 22.
