Gallery: Thank You, Zendaya For Keeping the Curly Shag Haircut Trend Alive For Fall (PopSugar)

a person standing next to a body of water: If you want to make a statement, you pull out a curly shag haircut on the red carpet. Zendaya knows that, and it's exactly what she did for the premiere of her upcoming movie Dune. At the Grand Rex cinema in Paris on Sept. 6, the star hit the red carpet alongside Timothée Chalamet wearing a matching set from Alaïa's winter/spring 2022 collection and rocking a voluminous curly shag hairstyle. Her coily, shoulder-grazing style was paired with spiral bangs that hit right at her eyebrows. The '70s-inspired look is a dramatic departure from her sleek, wet look that she wore just days before. To complete her head-turning beauty look, Zendaya wore purple eyeliner with a faint shimmer to it that complemented her two-piece ensemble. This isn't the first time the Euphoria star has given the retro hairstyle a try. In 2017, she wore a similar textured look but with caramel-brown highlights mixed in at the Teen Choice Awards, and then again at the Variety Power of Young Hollywood event that same year. For the record, Zendaya has shined on the red carpet during the entire Venice Film Festive (but when does she not?). Take a closer look at her curly shag haircut ahead.

“For this year’s Met Gala with Olivia Rodrigo, we wanted to keep it clean and chic and let her beauty speak for itself,” Hawkins said in a press release shared with Us Weekly.

Fast forward through a little blow-dry action with the Dyson Supersonic and Hawkins whipped out the brand’s Corrale Straightener for a sleek finish.

“Then I coated her glossy hair with Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil and raked it through with the Tangle Teezer Ultimate Finisher to smooth,” the stylist explained.

As for the bun of it all? Hawkins created chic knots at the crown of her head and secured them with hair pins, “letting her ends spike out on the sides.” To finish off the look, he sprayed Oribe’s Superfine Hairspray and smoothed the hairline with the brand’s oil.
