David sat for Karl on Monday and Friday, and a Nine spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that Stefanovic was on 'planned leave' for those two days.

His absence from the Today couch was explained on-air by his co-host Alison who said Stefanovic is set to miss two days work due to a separate assignment.

It is believed that Karl is away working on a top-secret 60 Minutes report.

This comes after it was announced that David will be starring the in the stage play of North By Northwest.
