  I'm A Celebrity: Adam Woodyatt rules out an EastEnders return The actor, best known for his role as Ian Beale, told MailOnline he's planning to return to the stage for his role in Looking Good Dead in the New Year, alongside his former co-star Laurie Brett. Adam, who was reportedly paid a six figure sum to take part in the show, also revealed he's received a few tips from his former co-star Shane Richie about coping with life in Gwrych Castle, but he is keen to go in and 'find out for himself.

The 53-year-old actor, who has played Ian Beale on the BBC soap since it began in 1985, took an extended break from the show in January and originally stated that he would return in mid-2022. However, speaking to reporters ahead of his stint on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, Woodyatt revealed his contract with the BBC had expired and he had "no plans" to return to Albert Square.

"Why have I finally said yes? Because I am not in EastEnders. That is the honest answer," he said, reports The Sun. "I am not in contract with the BBC so I can come and do it. It's the first chance I've had. I'm just quite happy doing what I'm doing at the moment, which is doing I'm a Celeb."

During his break, Woodyatt, who filmed his last scenes as Ian in November 2020, has been working in the theatre and living in a motorhome.

When pressed for further information about his return to the soap, he replied, "To be honest with you, I don't know the answer. And it's also not just my decision, it's a BBC decision. There's lots of factors that come into it. I'm just taking it as it comes along. There's no plan."

The actor and his fellow soap star, Coronation Street's Simon Gregson, entered Gwrych Castle in Wales and joined the rest of the I'm a Celebrity contestants on Wednesday night.

Woodyatt explained that he wanted to appear on the show to prove that he's different to Ian Beale in real life and he admitted he's got a "fair feeling" that viewers will vote for him to do "all the trials".
