Meanwhile her estranged husband Kanye West - who is longtime friends with Virgil and collaborated with him for years - deleted all posts from his Instagram after the death of his close confidant amid his secret cancer battle.

There were also images of Virgil playing basketball with Kanye when Kim had rented out The Staples Center in Los Angeles  for his 38th birthday in June 2015.

Abloh's family said that 'through it all, his work ethic, infinite curiosity, and optimism never wavered,' and that he 'was driven by his dedication to his craft and to his mission to open doors for others and create pathways for greater equality in art and design.'

Abloh's relatives thanked his fans for their 'love and support' and requested privacy amid the grieving process.

For his Sunday Service, Ye arranged for his choir to perform the Adele song Easy on Me, with modified lyrics.

In a timeline of Abloh's formidable career, Vogue reported that Abloh and Ye, who are both from Chicago, got in touch after Abloh met with Ye's manager at the time, John Monopoly.

'West and Abloh begin officially working together soon after,' the outlet reported.

Ye in 2011 hired Abloh as his creative director for his agency Donda, according to Entertainment Weekly, after working with him in an internship for Fendi two years earlier.

Abloh in 2012 received a Grammy nomination for Best Recording Package for his work as art director of Ye's 2011 collaboration album with Jay-Z, Watch the Throne. He had also collaborated on West on the albums Yeezus (2013) and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010).

Abloh in 2018 was named by Louis Vuitton as artistic director for its menswear ready-to-wear line.

'We are all shocked after this terrible news. Virgil was not only a genius designer, a visionary, he was also a man with a beautiful soul and great wisdom,' Bernard Arnault, the chairman and chief executive of Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, said in a statement.

The designer is survived by his wife Shannon Abloh and his children, Lowe and Grey.
