The actor who accused Kevin Spacey of making a sexual advance towards him when he was 14-years-old has given his first interview since going public with his story.

In a cover interview for UK magazine Attitude, the Trek Discovery star said he was encouraged to go public after women began sharing their stories about disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.

"There is no such thing as truly being alone," he said. "There is strength in numbers. I did it to stand on the shoulders of all that I was witnessing around me. I was hopeful that sharing my story would have an impact."

The 46-year-old also said he is hopeful attitudes towards sexual harassment and assault are changing in workplaces beyond the entertainment industry.

"That's the big sea change, and I hope that it's occurring not just in our industry, but everywhere and that people are realising that these things can have an impact - that people do not have to be able to get away with it.

"The entire apparatus that kept people silent and also kept [alleged predators] safe is being dismantled."

Rapp also said he has been surprised by how his allegations, originally published in Buzzfeed, have sparked a "meaningful response".

"I was incredibly moved by the supportive responses from so many people in my life. I'm hopeful that it will continue to have a positive effect in the future.

"To be part of a movement that I think will make a real lasting difference is something that's bigger than any individual."

House of Cards has confirmed Kevin Spacey will not appear in the political drama's upcoming season. Rapp, meanwhile, made history last month when he became the first actor in Star Trek history to be involved in an on-screen gay kiss.
