Sydney's tough grand final loss puts onus on Swans to bounce back fast amid echoes of Port Adelaide in 2007 Sydney's awful grand final performance has echoes of another big grand final demolition by Geelong that derailed a promising young side 15 years ago. Andrew McGarry takes a look at the Swans' grand final horribilis and what happens next for Sydney. An exciting team from outside Victoria and filled with young talent has made the decider a year or two earlier than expected, and been demolished by an untouchable Geelong outfit, who have broken a more than decade-long wait for a flag.

Earlier, Mahalia Barnes stormed the stage at the pre-match entertainment before the NRLW Grand Final match on Sunday.

The 40-year-old rocked the stage with a rendition of the Russell Morris classic The Real Thing before the game between the Newcastle Knights and Parramatta Eels at Accor Stadium.

Accompanied by musicians A.Girl and Emma Donovan, Mahalia, who is the daughter of rocker Jimmy Barnes, showcased her powerhouse vocals.

NRL News: Klein gets GF gig, Rabbits won't take trainer feud further, Lane lashes league for salary cap delay Ashley Klein has edged out Grant Atkins to take the whistle in the NRL grand final between Penrith and Parramatta, his first decider as the sole referee. The 43-year-old Klein refereed all three State of Origin matches this year. He previously adjudicated the 2018 grand final with Gerard Sutton. “I am really looking forward to Sunday. I actually live in western Sydney and you can feel it in the street already that everybody is really excited,” Klein said.

'Wow @MahaliaBarnes and Emma Donovan and band, what a great song! Mow ma mow mow ma ma mow mow!' someone else said.

Not everyone enjoyed the show however, with others expressing their dissent on social media.

'No disrespect but there @NRL needs to put some serious cash into getting a massive artist for the #NRLGF. Most years the AFL leave them for dead every single time,' one person tweeted.

Another person joked that they had blocked their ears while listening to the 'pre game entertainment for the #NRLGF'.

Grand Final Team Lists Late Mail: Brown's shock recall, Opacic doubt, Staines in for May, Penitani hopeful Penrith winger Charlie Staines has retained his spot in Ivan Cleary‘s side for the Grand Final while Parramatta have recalled unwanted forward Nathan Brown. First-choice Penrith winger Taylan May has been ruled out of Sunday’s clash with a hamstring injury, meaning Staines has held onto his spot. Staines, who has played 14 games for the Panthers this season, earned a recall for Penrith’s preliminary final win over South Sydney with May sidelined with injury and suspension. Penrith have named interchange prop Spencer Leniu after he was sent for two head injury assessments last week.

'Can someone get parachute pants off the stage please!!!' another complained, while one more said, 'Let's butcher a classic'.
