Meat Loaf is reportedly planning to stage a world tour - without singing any of his songs.

The 70-year-old rocker is thought to be plotting a new trek - despite suffering from back problems in recent years that have made it difficult for him to sing.

According to The Sun, his songs will instead be performed by American Idol winner Caleb Johnson - with Meat Loaf, real name Marvin Lee Aday, telling stories about his life and career.

"Meat Loaf is concerned he isn't up to some of the bigger numbers after losing his voice a couple of years ago," a source told the British newspaper.

"He's been relying on pre-recorded vocal tracks for a while but doesn't want to face accusations of miming on a huge tour, so is passing the baton on to Caleb, who he's a big fan of. Instead, his involvement will be telling stories of how he met Jim Steinman, who he's worked with since the Seventies, and other anecdotes. But the singing will be left to Caleb."

He underwent surgery on his spine in 2016 and has had to take a step back from performing due to the pain.

"Because it hurts my back, I haven't been able to sing in a year," he told RollingStone.com earlier this year. "You use everything to sing, and I just cannot do it."

However, if the new show, dubbed Bat Out of Hell, is a success he will reportedly look to take it to Las Vegas as part of a residency deal.

The insider was sceptical about Meat Loaf's new venture's prospects, telling The Sun: "He has a really committed core fanbase who often put up with his weird and wonderful ways. But them paying to see someone else sing his hits might be a step too far."
