The pair worked together for more than a decade, which covered Jacobson's rise from star of local cult film Kenny to prime-time commercial TV host, until they parted ways in February.

Telstra's result, while clearly foreshadowed, underscores how much value was expropriated from shareholders when the telco was bludgeoned into co-operating with the NBN. Former Telstra chairwoman Catherine Livingstone and then-CEO David Thodey salvaged some value, but more was probably lost than retained. The numbers, which reflect the progressive displacement of Telstra’s high-margin fixed-line network and its earnings by the NBN, also include the ever-increasing intensity of the telco's efforts to establish a viable future, in line with the "T22" strategy it outlined earlier this year.
