Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall has allegedly joined a bid to thwart her next-door neighbours plans to build an extension on their home.

As reported by The Daily Mail, the 71-year-old intervened plans made by the neighbours of her Wiltshire home to demolish an outbuilding on the owner's property and construct a 'granny flat' for his elderly mother.

The property owned by the wife of Prince Charles, was where she lived before she married into the royal family.

"It's very unfair," a local told the publication.

"All he wanted to do was build a home for his mother and Camilla has used her influence to sway the council. Some would see it as bullying."

The Daily Mail claims Camilla instructed Charlie Craven, head of Charles’s Highgrove estate, to send a letter of objection to Wiltshire council on headed paper complete with the Prince’s heraldic badge.

The letter was marked "Private and Confidential" and Craven outlined "concern" at the neighbour’s proposal which was submitted in March.

"I believe it will have a negative effect on the flow of water from the river during periods of flooding," the letter read.

Although conceding that this would "not directly affect Rey Mill House", Craven said: "The river has flooded numerous times. Anything that hinders or alters the natural flow of the river to the detriment of other properties is clearly unacceptable."

It is believed Craven also sent a second letter in which he asserted that the proposed design "appears to be larger and higher than the existing building which clearly goes against the Design Statement".

Right royal planning row: Camilla uses her royal clout to crush permission for her next door neighbour ' s granny flat. But I can reveal that Camilla has nevertheless intervened to help thwart a bid by her next-door neighbour at her Wiltshire retreat to build a ‘granny flat’ for his mother.

It is understood Wiltshire council has now rejected the proposal.

It's highly unlikely Camilla will ever return to live in the Wiltshire home.

Prince Charles famously said that when he becomes king he will stay at Clarence House and not move into Buckingham Palace.

A friend of Charles and Camilla has told how the Duke of Cornwall had three bedrooms refurbished when they got married in 2005.

'His Royal Highness has a room with a double bed, decorated to his own taste, then Camilla has her own room with a double bed, decorated just the way she likes it,' says the friend.

'In addition, they have a shared bedroom with a double bed that they can use whenever they like. The arrangement suits them perfectly.'
