The municipal baths of Strasbourg, extensive set of style "Jugendstil", the equivocal of the art nouveau in Germany, partly classified to the historical monuments, will reopen to the public on November 8, after three years of closure that made it possible to renovate the building.

"These baths are an architectural jewel, emblematic of the former German Imperial district, ranked by UNESCO", welcomed the Mayor, Jeanne Barseghian (EELV), during a press visit. "The goal of renovation was to remain in the spirit of origin, while offering new services and improve energy performance," she said.

The two main basins are now interconnected by new access, while outside, a new basin, fruit of proposals formulated during the public consultation, was built instead of the former car park. Two gyms and a dietary workshop have emerged in the old boiler room. The whole is accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Water saving

The renovation, with a cost of 40.2 million euros, was conducted by Eiffage, with Chatillon architects and TNA architects. It must make it possible to save water up to 80% and decrease the energy consumption of the building by 41%.

For the 7th edition of the MonExpert-Renovation-Energie / Opinionway Barometer, it did not fail. "We used 850 liters of water by user, we will be able to fall 150 liters of water per person, thanks to filter systems," welcomed Alexandre Feltz, the deputy in charge of public health. The site, ownership of the town hall, will be operated in public service delegation by Equalia.

"There had been different imagined projects, to sell the building to make it a hotel, or to develop a public-private partnership, and it was a fight and a political decision during the last mandate to conserve this heritage under Public control, "said Jeanne Barseghian.

The building was built by the German architect Fritz Beblo between 1905 and 1908, at a time when Strasbourg was German. It had been recorded in the historical monuments in 2000.
