Dog owners are finding out precisely what kind of breed their pet is in a growing trend.

DNA tests for people are a worldwide phenomenon with ancestry-tracing TV shows like "Finding Your Roots" and "Who Do You Think You Are?" growing in popularity.

But move over, mankind. Now Fido wants a piece of the action.

Inside Edition met with one family who threw a party with the purpose of finding out the true breeds of their adopted dogs.

Much like a human DNA test, all you have to do is order a kit, swab the inside of your dog's cheek and send back the sample.

Ashley Troutman works for Embark, a company that offers dog DNA tests.

"Our tests can unveil so many insights for your dog, so it can tell you the full breed mix and traits," Troutman told Inside Edition. "But we also look at 200,000 spots on your dog's genome to tell you about over 160 genetic health conditions so we can give you information on a condition your dog may develop later in life."

During the party, revelers were encouraged to play games to guess the breed of their dogs.
