Adam Doueihi could return to the field as soon as this week in a huge boost for the decimated Rabbitohs, who cleared Adam Reynolds of a leg fracture on the eve of State of Origin selection.

Having only been able to name a 20-man squad early last week before the win over the Tigers, Wayne Bennett's side had a double dose of good news when Reynolds' injury was far better than first thought.

The premiership-winning No.7 only has severe bruising to his lower leg after limping off before half-time in table-topping South Sydney's 10th win in 11 matches this season.

And with a cast of NSW and Queensland stars on State of Origin duty this week, the Rabbitohs will be desperate to have Reynolds steering the ship for their clash against the Eels at Bankwest Stadium on Friday night.

Prodigy gets Origin debut nod from NSW legend

Prodigy gets Origin debut nod from NSW legend Peter Sterling has named a Canberra Raiders prodigy in his NSW Origin team, one of four debutants for the Blues.

"He was quite improved [on Sunday]," South Sydney's head of high performance Jarrod Wade said.

"He was able to walk without the crutches so it's really a pain management thing now. It's a really significant bruise and a cork to the lower leg. We just need to see how he settles and weight bearing, walking around and running."

But the news about Doueihi was even sweeter with the talented utility potentially making his return from an ACL tear this week. Doueihi underwent a knee reconstruction last year in his rookie season and will be available for either NRL or Canterbury Cup within the next two weeks.

His return will be invaluable for Bennett, who is set to lose Cody Walker for the Origin series after he received his maiden NSW call-up.

Greg Inglis to enter rehabilitation

Greg Inglis to enter rehabilitation The former Australia, Queensland and South Sydney star has struggled with his mental health since retiring from the game earlier this year.

"He put together a really, really good fortnight and he was with the team over the weekend," Wade said.

"He's been training with the pink bib over the past fortnight. He's been doing all of the football work with the team at a really high level and really high intensity. The coaching staff at the back end of last week started noticing he's looking pretty ready to go now.

"He's looking to play either this week or the following week with some game time."

Bennett and his coaching staff will mull their options on Monday, but with Alex Johnston, Braidon Burns and Kyle Turner still on the sidelines along with their Origin stars they could be forced to draft players outside of their top 30 to fill a 21-man squad this week.
