Panesar admits to 'ball tampering' in England team Former England cricket star Monty Panesar has admitted to 'ball tampering' in his tell-all new book.

" England in their conditions are the most strong side in this tournament. But all the teams so strong and well balanced and the fact we have to play everyone once, I think this will be the most competitive World Cup that anyone will have seen," Kohli said at the official captains' media conference.

Kohli said England in their conditions would be the “most strong side ” in the world event . England go into the tournament as the No. 1 ranked ODI side , followed by Virat Kohli ’s India. Hosts England, who have never won the World Cup, are the current number one side in the ODI rankings and have some of the best players in the world in their squad that are in form.

Add to that the fact the tournament is taking place on home soil - and they are the clear favourites to win the competition.

India, who have triumphed twice in World Cup history, are listed as second favourites to lift the trophy.

Kohli tips Archer to be England's 'X-factor' player

Kohli tips Archer to be England's 'X-factor' player India captain Virat Kohli feels fast bowler Jofra Archer could be England's 'X-factor' player during the upcoming World Cup. The Barbados-born Archer was selected in the host nation's 15-man World Cup squad despite only qualifying to play for his adopted country in March this year. The 24-year-old Archer has only played in three ODIs and one T20I but is tipped by Kohli to make an impact in the global tournament. The India skipper would have seen Archer's potential as he has played the last two seasons in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The England cricket team have appeared in every edition of the Cricket World Cup to date, being crowned champions in 2019. In addition, they were losing finalists in 1979, 1987 and 1992.

“ England in their conditions are the most strong side in this tournament. But all the teams so strong and well balanced and the fact we have to play everyone once, I think this will be the most competitive World Cup that anyone will have seen,” Kohli said at the official captains’ media conference.

Even though India are strongly fancied, their skipper Kohli has looked to put the pressure on the hosts by highlighting them as the favourites.

The India skipper said: "England in their conditions are the most strong side in this tournament.

"But all the teams are so strong and well balanced and the fact we have to play everyone once, I think this will be the most competitive World Cup that anyone will have seen."

England skipper Eoin Morgan has played down the favourites tag, he said: "I don't think anyone is head and shoulders above anyone else.

"These are the ten best teams in the world, it will be extraordinarily competitive and some quality cricket will be played so we are really looking forward to it."

The World Cup will kick off on 30 May when England play South Africa at the Oval.
