The Spaniard won the first nine points of Tuesday's match against the Australian 21st seed, who had battled a nagging groin injury in the lead-up to the clay grand slam.

De Minaur, 20, tried what he could to slow the Carreno Busta's charge but had little success in the 6-3 6-1 6-1 defeat that lasted less than two hours.

The Australian had made light work of American Bradley Klahn on Monday to snap a five-match losing streak.

The Sydney International winner ran tirelessly while resorting to drop shots, fake drop shots and flat forehands as he desperately searched for a way past the Spaniard.

Australian Alex de Minaur 's French Open campaign has been abruptly ended by clay-court specialist Pablo Carreno Busta in the second round.

But the familiar foe proved impenetrable, saving all seven break points against him and using brick-wall like defence as de Minaur threw in an uncharacteristic 34 unforced errors.

With no points to defend on the clay, the Australian is still forecast to rise to a career-high ranking of world No.23 ahead of the grass season.
