Past Australian teams were nicknamed 'Dad's Army' because of all of the old heads in the side.

There are a few grey hairs in Australia's 15-man World Cup squad, and Aaron Finch is up there - but even he didn't see the sledge coming.

When the team captains met the Queen and Prince Harry at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, Finch was met by traditional English-Australian banter.

"How many years have you been playing now? You're getting on a bit, arent you?" the Duke of Sussex asked.

Perhaps it was a fair criticism - of the ten World Cup squads, Australia's average age is 30.39, behind Sri Lanka (30.43) and South Africa (30.34.)

It's pretty even across the board, with India (30.06), New Zealand (29.59) and England (29.3) just behind. Afghanistan (27.7) is the youngest team at the tournament.

Finch turns 33 in November, but South Africa is the real World Cup's Dad's Army, boasting near-geriatrics Imran Tahir (40), Hashim Amla (36), Dale Steyn (36), JP Duminy (35) and skipper Faf du Plessis (34).

The Queen, at a diminutive 163cm, was dwarfed by West Indies skipper Jason Holder, who stands at 202cm - but she also managed to get a joke in, suggesting she knew someone taller in her household.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and Prince Michael of Kent were also in attendance at the palace garden party.

Meghan Markle May Make Her Next Appearance Sooner Than We Thought Despite being in the middle of her maternity leave, it's looking likely that Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, will break it to attend this event. Although there aren't any set rules for royal maternity leaves, the mark generally sits around six months—based off of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, anyway. It all came after a year that was shattered by the Newlands scandal, while Australia managed just two wins from 13 matches in the ODI format.

With Steve Smith and David Warner back in the team, the Australian players will cop booing at every turn, even if the disgraced players themselves don't think much of it.

For Finch, it'll be a test of leading the team in a major tournament, one that is looking to defend its World Cup crown - and an opportunity to let the likes of Smith and Warner find their voice again.

"It's about bouncing ideas off everyone. It’s not just one person who runs the ship, it’s about making sure you’re getting as much information as you can to make the best decision on the day," he said.

"It's just one of those things that the majority of time everyone is on the same page and there’s times that people will have different opinions.

"It’s important to respect that and to take that on board and sometimes the best decisions are the left field ones that you hadn’t thought of."
