Sudan protesters reject talks after 108 killed in crackdown

Sudan protesters reject talks after 108 killed in crackdown Sudanese protest leaders on Wednesday turned down an offer by the ruling military council for talks and demanded justice for a crackdown that doctors said has left 108 people dead.

A statement last week from the league ’ s head office refuted any such crackdown was in place, but all evidence continues to point in the other direction. The furore erupted earlier this month when a Carlton fan was escorted out of an AFL game for claiming to call an umpire a “bald-headed flog”.

A pair of Carlton fans were ejected during the Blues' three-point loss to the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium, while another was seen wearing tape over the mouth, signifying that they weren't allowed to barrack.

Speaking while on commentary for Channel Seven, both Richardson and Bulldogs great Luke Darcy urged security guards to back off.

Opinion: AFL's stance on crowd behaviour and umpire abuse leaves fans confused

Opinion: AFL's stance on crowd behaviour and umpire abuse leaves fans confused The AFL is sending mixed messages to fans when it claims it's not cracking down loud and abusive spectators, writes Richard Hinds.

The AFL insists it hasn't cracked down on fan behaviour despite "behavioural awareness officers" patrolling the crowd at Friday night' s game between Essendon and Hawthorn at Marvel Stadium. It follows the ejection of a supporter who allegedly ran towards umpire Mathew Nicholls while calling him

"The way they’ve been pacing up and down the aisles, I’m not sure it’s necessary," Darcy said.

"I don’t know what is being said. I don’t know what actions are being taken. But they don’t need to be walking up and down corridors eyeing people off."

"Fair dinkum, do we need to be walking up and down just — let the people sit there and watch the footy." Richardson added.

According to former St Kilda great Nick Dal Santo, the AFL is headed down a "dangerous" path if they did not make it clear what behaviour is and is not allowed.

"I think we need to be very, very clear," he told Fox Footy.

"If the AFL are saying this is from the particular stadium, that they're taking control of this sort of security, that's okay.

"But I think as spectators and lovers of the game, you need to know what is and isn't allowed. I feel we're going to go into a dangerous particular area if we're not letting the fans express themselves with frustration.

AFL legends fume at security crackdown© AAP AFL boss Gillon McLachlan is under fire for suggesting that there hadn't been a crackdown on behaviour

"They're working 9-5 Monday to Friday. Go to the game and let it all out in a controlled manner."

The controversy surrounding an apparent crackdown on behaviour comes after Collingwood cheer squad leader Jeff 'Joffa' Corfe threatened to organise a mass boycott of AFL matches if AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan did not apologise to fans.

McLachlan said he would like to meet with Corfe to have a discussion about fan behaviour, but refused to issue an apology.

Fans in attendance also noticed the presence of multiple security guards wearing jackets titled "Behavioural Awareness Officer".

The presence of seemingly over-zealous security guards left AFL fans on social media fuming at the treatment.
