North president Ben Buckley, searching for a new coach after parting ways with Brad Scott a month ago, has made a formal approach to club great Longmire through his manager Liam Pickering.

Longmire is contracted to coach Sydney until the end of the 2020 season but could potentially ask for an early release if tempted by a monster offer from the Kangaroos that is tipped to be in the vicinity of $1.5 million per season.

It's understood North made the Swans aware of their desire to sound out Longmire, who played 200 games for the Kangaroos and recently attended their 1999 premiership reunion.
