Carlos Sainz Jr. takes revenge on Daniel Ricciardo ’s low blow at British Grand Prix. It was a frustrating result for Ricciardo , who started in seventh but saw the opportunity open up to move into the top six when Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel crashed into the back of Red Bull star Max Verstappen.

Footage emerged following the race of Ricciardo slapping fellow F1 driver Carlos Sainz below the belt as they prepared to take to the track.

The Renault driver ducked beneath the camera before clipping the Spaniard while he was answering a question from a pair of reporters with TV channel, Movistar.

Two weeks after being hailed as the master overtaker, Ricciardo may have to take some of the blame for Red Bull's worst intra-team incident for years. The German led from pole and, after a safety car was triggered by several first-lap crashes , built a three-second lead on the first racing lap.

Ricciardo finished seventh and his Renault teammate Nico Hülkenberg tenth at Silverstone, which was where they started from on the grid.

McLaren driver Sainz finished in sixth place, and he and Ricciardo had a bit of a battle during the race.

“All in all, I think it was a good race. Initially, I thought my start wasn’t bad but Lando [Norris] just managed to get me after some clean racing," Ricciardo said after the race.

"We got him back on the undercut but then the Safety Car played into Carlos’ [Sainz] hands with a free pit-stop and that was a bit frustrating. It was unlucky on our part but we hunted him down towards the end but couldn’t mount a real attack to get past.

"It feels positive to be back in the top ten especially after the last two rounds. Our single-lap and race pace has certainly been a solid turnaround in a short period of time. Looking back to two weeks ago, we’d have taken this result."

Sainz said he did enjoy the challenge with Ricciardo at Silverstone, and held no hard feelings despite copping a 'sack whack' from the West Australian earlier in the day.

"I think the last few laps with Daniel were fun because he was just that tiny bit quicker that made him get into my DRS," the Spaniard said.

"And once he had the DRS, with head wind on the straight, my clipping on the battery, we were running more wing than him, so it meant he was really catching me on the straights but we were just hanging on in the corners.

"We were pushing flat out. These were proper qualifying laps the whole way through because the hard tyres allowed you to do so."

Hulkenberg "quite likely" to stay at Renault in 2020.
Nico Hulkenberg thinks it is "quite likely" that he will remain at Renault in 2020, even though he says the team cannot be happy with its rate of progress. The German's future with the French car manufacturer has been in doubt amid speculation that it could do a deal with Mercedes to take Esteban Ocon alongside Daniel Ricciardo next year. But despite his own clear frustrations at the way Renault has not been able to build on its strong 2019 form, Hulkenberg says he remains optimistic about the future for both himself and the team.
