Paul Kent doubles down on claim that NSW coach Brad Fittler's success is largely due to luck

Paul Kent doubles down on claim that NSW coach Brad Fittler's success is largely due to luck Veteran rugby league reporter Paul Kent has doubled down on his claim that NSW coach Brad Fittler's State of Origin success can be largely chalked up to blind luck. He believes Fittler's series victory last year was largely due to the fact Cameron Smith, Johnathan Thurston and Cooper Cronk retired. "Freddy luck," Kent called it.

St George Illawarra forward Tariq Sims is adamant Paul McGregor is the man to lead the Dragons despite mounting pressure on the besieged coach.

While he only signed a two-year extension in April, McGregor's position at the club has been questioned with the Dragons flailing in 14th place.

And after the Gold Coast Titans sacked coach Garth Brennan over the weekend, many frustrated St George Illawarra fans are baying for McGregor to receive the same fate.

But Sims rubbished any suggestions the players aren't on board with McGregor's ways, wholeheartedly putting his support behind the club legend.

"He's the reason why I stayed here, why I came here," the NSW Origin representative enthused.

"He's got the respect of the playing group. It's just our individual performances haven't been up to par. That's what it comes down to."

Having won just six matches in 2019, St George Illawarra require a stirring run of victories to make the finals for a second straight year.

Though McGregor has copped the brunt of the criticism for the side's lack of results, Sims insisted the players alone are to blame.

"[McGregor] is not out there making tackles, he's not out there throwing forward passes or dropping balls," Sims said.

"It comes back to us [the players]. We're out there, he's just orchestrating it ... If you pull on a jersey, especially a Red V jersey, you're expected to perform."

CWC 19: Why Blackcaps coach sent Guptill out for 'super over'

CWC 19: Why Blackcaps coach sent Guptill out for 'super over' The Blackcaps opener was a controversial decision.

McGregor has been in charge of the club since 2014, reaching the finals twice with a win rate of 48.8 per cent following 129 NRL matches.

Ever the optimist, he drew chuckles from even the most ardent Dragons supporters after Sunday night's 36-14 loss to the Canberra Raiders when he declared the Saints could still take out the title.

Sims, however, is also keeping the faith that a miracle may occur.

For winger Jonus Pearson, the immediate answer to getting back in the winners' circle after Friday's away clash with the Penrith Panthers lies in the basics.

"We just need to cut down the errors and penalties and we'll be sweet from there," Pearson said.

" ... Now it's time to get back on the paddock and work on that."

Jean Paul Gaultier Is So In Love With Madonna, He Proposed 3 Times.
Jean Paul Gaultier has been crafting looks for Madonna since the 1980s, but their relationship would’ve taken a much deeper, more personal turn if he’d had his way. In a Wednesday interview with London’s “This Morning,” the French designer revealed that he was “kind of” in love with Madonna throughout their professional collaboration. “I asked her three times if [she] wanted to marry me,” Gaultier, who identifies as gay, said. Turns out, the Queen of Pop wasn’t so smitten. “She said no,” Gaultier quipped. © Gie Knaeps via Getty Images Madonna wore Jean Paul Gaultier on her 1990 Blond Ambition Tour.
